Big Sandy Helps Flood Victims

On June 6 and 7, 2009 Big Sandy Superstore employees set up at the Meade Shopping Plaza in Gilbert, West Virginia to help flood victims. The team, led by Robert and Stephen VanHoose, handed out free bottled water, flood relief discount booklets, and conducted a drawing to give away a truckload of free, "gently used" donated furniture.

Charity Bucks

Big Sandy Superstore is expanding their community support with a new program called Charity Bucks. It is a win-win situation for everyone involved and allows Big Sandy to give back support where it is earned.

Habitat For Humanity

A natural sponsorship was formed with Huntington Area Habitat for Humanity in 2006 for the building of their 60th area home. Big Sandy Superstore and Clear Channel Radio partnered to fund, build, and help furnish this new home.

Andrew's Buddies

Andrew's Buddies raises funds for the research of spinal muscular atrophy. Big Sandy Superstore has donated items such as a pick-up truck and lawn mower for local fund-raising.

Shelter of Hope

Shelter of Hope provides shelter and other assistance to homeless families. Big Sandy Superstore recently donated 21 king size mattresses to help. Here is a letter we received from Shelter of Hope:

Thank you for your generous donation of 21 king-size mattresses last month. These mattresses provided comfort for 21 families who would have been sleeping on the floor. Big Sandy has been incredibly generous to Shelter of Hope for many years, many homeless families appreciate you for that! As of July 31, 2008, we has assisted 257 individuals, 50 of whom are children, with shelter, and other needs. Many families come to us without any furniture or other basic household items; and they are uncertain of their future survival. The Shelter of Hope provides shelter, case management providing guidance through the job search process and assistance with their search for permanent housing. Because of your support, we are able to give them hope needed to survive and become self-sufficient!

Thank you for making a difference in so many people's lives!!

Scholarships

The VanHoose-Stewart Foundation awards higher education scholarships up to $2,000 per academic year. Begun in 2005, there are 27 full-time students currently receiving assistance.
