The Best Dreams Happen on a Bed from Big Sandy Superstore

There’s nothing quite like a bedroom makeover to refresh your bedtime routine.

While a mattress is what you’ll sleep on, having a bed that holds that mattress not only makes an attractive presentation, but also increases the lifetime of your investment. Whether you’re looking to give your bedroom a new look or to keep your mattress in tip-top shape, we break it down for you here!

    Before You Make Your Bed

Knowing your bedroom’s dimensions is important when considering a new mattress and a bed. To get familiar with the basics—including how to properly measure your bedroom space—take a look at our bedroom furniture buying guide.

    Expert Tip

Keep in mind, certain bed styles like canopy beds and poster beds require adequate ceiling clearance.

    Sleeping in Style

There is a variety of bed styles that let you express your home’s unique style and give your bedroom an extra touch of “you.” If you’re short on space, a storage bed with storage drawers makes a fitting substitute for a dresser or chest.

Otherwise, the simple look of a panel bed, sleigh bed, or platform bed is a great complement to a full bedroom ensemble.

Let your child’s individuality shine, too, with a children's bed that will get them excited about bedtime! From kids’ beds for one to bunk beds for two, we carry safe and fun youth beds for every stage of life.

Pick a Bed Size That’s Just Right

It’s natural to think a California king size mattress will work with a king size bed, or a twin XL size mattress will work with a twin bed. However, special mattresses need beds that fit their extra length or width.

When picking a bed for your mattress, you can match a smaller mattress with a bigger bed, but not a bigger mattress with a smaller bed.

For instance, a queen size bed is 6 inches wider than a full size mattress and 16 inches shorter than a king size mattress. So while the next mattress size up (king) is too big to fit into a queen size bed, a full size mattress will fit, but with a 3-inch gap on each side.

For more about the mattress sizes we carry, take a look at our mattress buying guide!

Do I Need a Special Bed for a Split Mattress?

Not at all. Since a split mattress is the same size as a single mattress, all you need is the correct bed size.

    Head-to-Floor Support

Typically, platform beds and storage beds come with the necessary foundation to support your mattress, while panel beds, poster beds, and sleigh beds do require a foundation. That being said, it’s always a good idea to check if a bed needs a box spring or slats before you purchase.

Headboards make quite the statement in a bedroom, but did you know they also provide some handy benefits?

    • An upholstered headboard provides cozy back support while you enjoy nighttime reading or watching television upright
    • Bookcase headboards keep bedtime essentials conveniently stored
    • Solid headboards insulate you from cold bedroom walls

Best of all, if you already have a bed frame, attaching a headboard is a simple way to create a proper bed on a budget.
