The Big Sandy Superstore Experience - Quality Brand Mattresses in the Midwest

When It Comes to Mattresses, Size Matters

If you wake up feeling stiff or like you didn’t get any sleep, or if you toss and turn all night trying to find that just-right position, then your mattress may be to blame. Let us help you find the best mattress for your sleep habits!

Picking a mattress size is the first step toward better sleep. When choosing a mattress size, it is important to consider how much space you have available in your bedroom. If you have a small bedroom, a twin or full mattress may be a better option than a queen or king.

Is your home a little space challenged? Do you love to spread out from corner to corner like a starfish in sheets? Does your partner? Does your dog share the bed? Shopping for a mattress might have you feeling a little like Goldilocks. Let’s help you find one that’s just right!

Here’s a quick look at mattress sizes in inches:

  • Twin: 39” x 75”
  • Full: 54” x 75”
  • Queen: 60” x 80”
  • King: 75” x 80”
  • California King: 72” x 84”

Twin Mattresses & Full Mattresses

If your space is small or you’re shopping for a child, check out a twin mattress (or the extra 5” length of a twin xl) or a full mattress. While these sizes may not provide the most room to spread out, there’s still plenty of comfort to be had! These bed sizes are ideal for bunk beds, day beds, loft spaces, futons (full), or guest rooms.

A twin mattress is a great choice for a child's room or for a small bedroom. It's the perfect size for one person and it's less expensive than a larger mattress. A twin mattress is also more portable than a larger mattress, which makes it easy to move around if needed. If you're looking for a comfortable and affordable mattress, a twin mattress is a great option.

So, give your kids, overnight guest, or in-laws enough room to get sound, sweet sleep. We do not, however, recommend making your in-laws sleep on a twin.

Queen Mattresses

If those options don’t float your dream ship, why not check out a queen mattress? This mattress will give you and your sleep partner plenty of spread-out space.

Give a queen mattress a try for more room and more comfortable sleep. Be sure to measure out your bedroom or sleep space before getting a bed larger than a full. No one wants to squeeze between a dresser and a bed in the morning rush to get ready for work, even if you work from home.

King Mattresses

Still not enough? Do you have the itch to sleep like royalty? Is the 60” x 80” size of a queen not doing the job? Then it’s time to check out a king mattress, sometimes referred to as an Eastern king mattress. These mattresses have typically more than enough room for you, your partner, and maybe even a pet or two.

Again, make sure your room is big enough for the extra 16” width and don’t forget to take your bed frame into account. It’s also important to make sure you can maneuver the 76” x 80” mattress up stairs and through doorframes. If space is tight, consider a split-king. We’re more than happy to answer any questions about split mattress types and sizes, too!

California King Mattresses

There is a step above a king mattress: At 4” narrower and 4” longer than a king, a California king mattress (sometimes called a Western king mattress) is perfect for a bedroom that might be a little too narrow for a normal king. Still a huge mattress, Cal kings provide space for single sleepers to really stretch out, and still enough room for you and your sleep partner, all while providing space between the mattress and the wall, dressers, or any other bedroom furniture.

As with all the mattresses above (we can’t stress this enough): measure, measure, measure! Make sure your room is ready for this mattress before you buy!
